Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Reach Sankri.

Altitude: 6,400 Ft.

Travel Time: 220 Km Drive - Approx. 10 Hours

Upon arriving in Dehradun, you will embark on a journey to Sankri via Mussoorie. The drive from Dehradun to Sankri, spanning 220 kilometers, takes approximately 10 hours. This route, meandering along the scenic Yamuna River, offers a delightful and joyful experience.

Uttarkashi, often referred to as the 'Kashi' of the south, is one of India’s most revered holy places, rich in mythological significance. The Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) is actively promoting tourism in this valley, ensuring that trekkers have ample amenities and facilities available.

As you approach Sankri, about 22 kilometers before your destination, you will be greeted by breathtaking views of the serene Himalayas and verdant landscapes. The path takes you through the Govind National Park, renowned for its diverse and unique flora, found exclusively in this region and nowhere else in the country. This stretch of the journey promises an awe-inspiring encounter with the pristine beauty of the Himalayas and the rich biodiversity of the park.

Day 2: Sankri to Juda-ka-Talab.

Altitude: 6,400 Ft. to 9,100 Ft.

Travel Time:Approx 5 hrs.

Trek Gradient: Easy to Moderate.

Water Sources: Carry your own water bottles.

Today, your trek begins with a journey to Juda Ka Tal, situated at an altitude of 9,100 feet. You’ll cover approximately 5 kilometers by the afternoon, a journey that typically takes around 5 hours, though the exact time may vary depending on your trekking pace. Along the way, you’ll encounter a variety of adventures. Ice and slush may present some challenges, but with the guidance of our expert trek leaders, you’ll navigate these with confidence.

The trek starts in a beautiful forest of pine and maple, gradually ascending through diverse wildlife and picturesque meadows. As you make your way upward, you’ll pass by rustic huts nestled beside the fields, where in summer, locals swim in the natural grassland pools. The water around the lake is lukewarm in some spots, contrasting with the colder sections. In winter, the lake transforms into a solid sheet of ice. A natural tunnel channels water to the local villages, sustaining them year-round. The absence of electronic distractions allows the soothing sounds of bird calls to fill the air. After passing through a village, the trail becomes more winding and involves steeper climbs.

The initial part of the climb includes crossing bridges. One of the highlights of this trek is the chance to spot the elusive Himalayan langur. While they are shy and often quick to hide, you might catch a glimpse of these fascinating creatures. Additionally, you may encounter wild boars, martens, and hares that inhabit the region.

Juda Ka Tal is a stunning destination nestled within a dense pine and oak forest. This serene lake will be your campsite for the night, offering a perfect spot to immerse yourself in the tranquil beauty of nature. Here, you can set up camp and enjoy the peace and splendor of the wilderness, truly experiencing the harmony of Mother Nature.

Day 3: Juda-ka-Talab to Kedarkantha Base Camp.

Altitude: 9,100 Ft. to 11,250 Ft..

Travel Time: Approx 2.5 hrs

Trek Gradient: Easy to Moderate.

Water Sources: Carry your own water bottles

Juda Ka Tal is a stunning lake encircled by pine trees, which transforms into a frozen wonderland during the winter months. It becomes a hub of adventure and fun activities for trekkers. As you continue along the trail, it becomes steeper, and your trek guide will provide valuable skills for navigating snowy slopes, including advice on the size of your steps. The destination for today is the Kedarkantha base camp, located at an altitude of 11,250 feet. This is approximately 4 kilometers from Juda Ka Tal, and the trek typically takes around 2.5 hours.

The journey resumes through dense forests of pine and oak, with the trail winding through steep ridges. As you ascend to an altitude of 10,400 feet, you’ll start to see traces of snow, giving you a glimpse of the breathtaking scenery awaiting you at your destination.

Before reaching the base camp, you will be treated to a magnificent view of snow-covered, arc-shaped ranges. The sight of the Bandarpoonch, Swargarohini, Kala Nag, and Ranglana peaks, standing majestically in the embrace of Mother Nature, offers a breathtaking spectacle that will leave trekkers in awe. Day 4: Kedarkantha Base Camp to Kedarkantha Summit and back to Kedarkantha Base Camp.

Altitude: 11,250 Ft. to 12,500 Ft.

Travel Time: Approx 7 hrs.

Trek Gradient: Easy to Moderate.

Water Sources: Carry your own water bottles.

Today is a significant day as you will be trekking towards the Kedarkantha Peak. Starting from an elevation of 11,250 feet and ascending to 12,500 feet, you will cover approximately 6 kilometers over the course of 7 hours. The trail becomes steeper, offering a challenging but rewarding experience. Along the way, you’ll be enchanted by the vivid hues of nature and the majestic views of various mountain ranges, including Rupin and others.

According to local folklore, the Kedarkantha peak was originally intended to be the site for the Kedarnath temple. However, villagers recount that during the construction, they heard animal sounds, which were considered an ominous sign for such a spiritual endeavor. As a result, they stopped building the temple and left the statue of Lord Shiva unfinished, reaching only up to the neck. In Hindi, "neck" is called "Kanth," and one of Lord Shiva’s many names is Kedar. Thus, the place came to be known as "Kedarkantha," meaning "Kedar's Neck."

At the summit of Kedarkantha Peak, you will be rewarded with panoramic views of several spectacular valleys, including Swargarohini, Gangotri, Kalanaag, Yamunotri, and Bandarpoonch. The summit provides a breathtaking vantage point that evokes a deep sense of tranquility and spirituality. At the top, there is a small temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, as well as a shrine for Lord Ganesh, adding a sacred touch to the already awe-inspiring landscape. This mesmerizing view will undoubtedly uplift your spirit and provide a moment of profound connection with nature.

Day 5: Kedarkantha Base Camp to Sankri.

On Day 5, we begin our descent from the Kedarkantha Base Camp back to Sankri.

Today marks the departure from the majestic views of the Himalayas and the breathtaking snow-capped peaks as we head back to Sankri. The descent is relatively straightforward, given the shorter distance.

Sankri serves as the base for several popular treks, including Bali Pass and Borasu Pass, among others.

After breakfast, you will pack your gear and start descending along a well-marked trail, eventually reaching Sankri.

Day 6: Departure from Sankri.

On Day 6, you will depart from Sankri and head towards Dehradun, covering a distance of 220 kilometers, which will take approximately 10 hours. The journey will begin early in the morning to ensure you arrive in Dehradun by the evening.

You can expect to reach Dehradun between 7:00 and 8:00 PM, so plan your travel arrangements for your hometown accordingly.

As you drive back to Dehradun, take the opportunity to reflect on and cherish the memories of your trek.
